I recently planned and hosted my husband’s 40th birthday party in LA and it was the most fun I had in awhile. I’ve hosted many kids’ birthday parties over the years, but planning a men’s party is more challenging but also more exciting!
Hip Hop Birthday Party, Men’s 40th Birthday Party, 90’s themed birthday party
My husband was born and raised in LA and loves west coast hip-hop so I decided on the theme “Straight Outta Compton.” With the recent wave of the 90’s trend, I couldn’t think of a better theme for him and his childhood friends.
Theme: Straight Outta Compton, 90’s Hip Hop, West coast hip hop
We incorporated the Straight Outta Compton theme into the desserts and details of the party like gold chains and custom sugar cookies with 90’s hip hop artists. Check out the custom cake and Biggie, Tupac, Snoop and 90’s cassette tape cookies by Sweetleemade!
We changed the city from “Compton” to “Downey” which is the city where my husband and many of his friends grew up. It was not only fun, but nostalgic for a 40th milestone birthday.
Masculine colors for a men’s birthday party
The colors were mainly black, gold and silver to reflect the masculine nature of the party theme. I wanted the overall vibe to be elegant and luxurious but not feminine. I also chose the event space to fit the theme with darker walls, gold accents and old Hollywood glamour.
The beautiful tablescape was created by talented event planner Anita Gohari. She created the entire centerpiece herself with eucalyptus, light florals and spray paint. We made sure the entire tablescape was masculine yet elegant with black linen.
Table cards and menu were custom designed to fit the “Straight Outta Compton” theme.
Personalized drink menu
This is a great way to add that personalized detail to the party! We created signature cocktails for my husband and his guests which added a fun touch to the night.
Party attire
The host or hostess should always dress the part! I found this black & gold stripe maternity dress on ASOS that worked perfectly with the theme. It was under $80 and very comfortable to wear the entire night.
Happy birthday to my husband, the unsung hero of my family! This is the first time I planned and hosted a party dedicated just for him and I’m so happy I did because he truly deserves to be celebrated on this important milestone.
I know there are so many fathers who work tirelessly behind the scenes for their families and I hope this blog post gives your fresh ideas for that special man in your life!
A special thanks to all the guests and vendors for making the night special!
